Abintus Coaching Resources
With different coaching governing bodies existing it isn’t quick to compare and contrast their coaching competencies. Here is a quick overview of the leading three bodies.
Governing bodies
For the purposes of this resource we have simply looked at 3 of the most cited governing bodies currently used by coaches:
- International Coach Federation – ICF
- European Coaching and Mentoring Council – EMCC
- Association for Coaching
The purpose is simply to share the differences and overlaps in the competencies identified by these bodies and which coaches should be adhering to and demonstrating.

Coaching competencies underpin good coaching practice. Whilst there is variation between the bodies they each fundamentally exist to guide and develop coaches in safe, ethical and effective practice.
